Wedding ceremony - church or civil, is is something that you as a couple have to decide together. If you are both are religious or want to have a traditional wedding, registering your marriage in front of God will seem to be like the right choice. However, having a church wedding is a serious matter, as the promise you will make in front of God to your spouse, is the one you will be obliged to hold on to forever. If you do not feel like spanding thousands of dollars on a lable, there are two way to go around it (1) order a copy of a designer dress - custom made from a specialised atelier or (2) get an exceptional quality fabric (you can get even couture at reasonable price) and keep the dress simple.
